Dear Visitor,
excellent choice today to take the opportunity of visiting Venice from a different perspective, from the Gran Canal, the main waterway of Venice. It has the appearance of a reverse “S” of 3 kms long and connects the Saint Mark’s Basin with Santa Lucia Railway station and Piazzale Roma. Along its banks it’s a succession of palaces, churches, hotels, and other public buildings in Romanesque, Gothic, and Renaissance. Famous palaces like Palazzo Barbarigo, Ca’ Rezzonico, Cà da Mosto, Ca’ d’Oro, Palazzo Pesaro … “Cà” in Venetian language is the abbreviation of “casa” mainly used for the homes of the nobles. The Rialto Bridge crosses the canal at roughly its halfway point and it’s the oldest bridge in the town.
